Bone Densitometry Preparation and Actual Examination

Preparation before the examination

Do not take any calcium supplements or Fosamax 24 hours prior the exam.

Experience during the examination

No injections is required.  You can remain in your clothes during the exam but may be asked to remove clothing with zippers and metal or thick plastic buttons, as well as belt buckles and metal jewellery before your exam begins. The technologist will ask you to lie down on a large padded examination table.  Once the exam begins, you will need to lie still and breathe normally. It is painless and typically, the exam takes ten to twenty minutes to complete.

After the examination

Return to normal routine.
